Manchester Pride 2016
Pride in Manchester is when the centre of the city becomes, for one weekend, taken over by the LGBT community. It’s a great place to find a concentration of interesting and unusual looks and faces. On Saturday I took a small softbox and a portrait lens into town, and with the help of assistant Ben Kirby asked six people if I could take their picture, and was unequivocally told yes six times. Each portrait took a bit of wrangling with light and pose to distill exactly what was interesting about each face, and it was a challenge getting a good result on a busy street with just a couple of minutes to refine things.
Pictures were shot on a Pentax 645z with a 150mm lens at f2.8. Lighting was a Profoto B1 with a 2x2ft softbox.
